Win98 SE Tapi problems

by grbeckmeyer . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

A customer running Win98 SE gets this error if they click on control panel/modems: “TAPISRV caused an invalid page fault in module TAPISRV.EXE at…”, same as in MS article Q241886 (that’s not the fix though) Also get TAPI errors when trying to runHyperterminal or AOL on dial-up, or Citrix connection via LAN/ISDN connection. Can still connect with any of these options, but just get the annoying error message.

Clicking on Telephony icon in control panel gives hourglass a few seconds then nothing, and I’ve also noticed there is no Network neighborhood icon on the desktop.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far- Article above does not apply, stepped through 3 methods in Q254332, Removed all programs from auto-startup in registry, win.ini, etc… Ran System file checker and restored original files(this fixed a shutdown problem but not the Tapi error), updated modem driver(USR PCI 56kfax), removed modem & all networking components. I’m trying to avoid a reinstall of the OS as this is a home computer loaded up
