Sometimes when i work on Win98 a message suddenly pops up saying "Kernel32 error" and the system hangs.I have no other option except to reset the machine. I have re-installed the OS still the problem persists?

You need to post more info. What programs are you using when this occurs? Have you installed any programs or hardware lately? Are there any other error messages that you are getting? The error message should have other info with it. Go to support.microsoft.com and look for help there. Is the cpu fan working? Are you getting good power? Try to list exactly what is going on and what programs are up and running and go from there.

Try reinstalling the programs you are using when the error occurs - if the system does it when nothing is running other than the OS, I would replace the memory. If that didn't solve the problem, I would curse, backup data, format and reinstall the OS fresh.

Ahh yes, the wonderful kernal32.dll error. Every cust. I talk to hates this one. The ONLY true fix for a kernal32 error is format and reinstall. Kernal32 is basically the core file of windows. It CANNOT be replaced or repaired unfortunately. Reinstalling windows over top of itself will NOT fix this problem. Once this file is corrupted you have no other choice. When you format, I'd advise formatting with a /u switch
(format c:/u). It will record bad clusters and section them off and reset the MBR. Make sure to back up your data because it will be lost. GL.
