Hello,
I need some help. I am networking Win98, XP and Vista machines and am having some troubles. I am also setting up a shared printer (Dell V305) for all of the computers.
Here’s what I am working with:
——————————–
1 Vista laptop (Wifi protected);
** 1 XP laptop ** (machine in question);
1 XP desktop;
1 Win98 desktop;
1 Dell V305 printer (Wifi protected);
Linksys wireless b/g router (Wifi protected).
I have successfully networked the vista and xp machines with the printer, and have not added the 98 machine into the network yet. They all show up in the workgroup.
Once I did that, adding the printer into the network created a secure network with the protocols TKIP+AES which was unsecured beforehand.
The vista machine joined the workgroup successfully, however, the xp laptop cannot pass the network authentication.
The protocol it is calling for is AES+CCNS and my network key does not work for joining the XP laptop to the network, which needs TKIP+AES encryption.
I swear I have the settings correct, so why can’t I join the XP laptop to the network or connect to the internet? I know it is because of the conflicting encryptions, but I do not understand why or how to work around it.
Could someone please explain to me how I can get this to work?
It seems as if the Wifi-Protected setup is causing the problem, but how can I get the protocols to jive? And what advice do you have for joining the Win98 machine into the network?
All I need to do is get the XP laptop to join the network and internet. Everything else is fine. Once I get this working, I am going to introduce the Win98 machine into the network.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
