Win98SE IRQ overlap

By chris ·
I have a Sony Vaio laptop on Win98SE. It seems to insist on configuring several different components to share IRQ9. This is raising havoc with trying to add a CardBus Adaptec SlimSCSI adapter. The CardBus Sockets works fine with a 3Com modem/Lan card, but the SCSI adapter in the same sockets either hangs up the system or causes it to go into a reboot loop. I've shut down virtually everything else that is on IRQ9 but the situation persists. Any suggestions?? Also, with this system, it will not let me reassign IRQ's. What is the work around for that?

If you are familiar with BIOS, go into it and set IRQ management to "manual" and set IRQ 9 to "legacy". When you start up again this should kick everything off of that IRQ.

If you have problems with W98 sharing IRQs, wait till you try XP!

Anyhow, what you need to do, is disable IRQ steering.
