I’m a consultant, managing several networks. In all cases they are Win98SE, using Office 2K. I know I shouldn’t do this for security reasons, but 2 of my client networks use Outlook2K in MS RTF with Word as the eMail editor. These networks are on NT4.0 SP 6a, behind firewalls & all machines run McAfee or NAV with updates weekly. They have no virus or intrusion problems, but they do have an odd quirk. After several hours of use the computers tend to lock-up. These machines are P IIIs, at least 450 MHz, with at least 128 M RAM. What I’ve found is that there are several instances of WinWord running in the background. I can see these if I “ctrl-alt-del”. If the users don’t open Outlook, these background instances of WinWord don’t open.
What’s up with this?
I can’t find anything on TechNet, so I thought I’d post here.
Any help, advice or questions welcome.
