Window XP Shutdown

By rmcpeake ·
A user gets the following message when shutting down Windows XP "Moving... windows is currently working with a file. Either wait for it to finish or close it before you quit windows.
The user claims that when accessing the task manager reports no applications running.
How can I troubleshoot this issue?
Thanks.

If this user has Internet access, try cleaning the machine with Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy or Spysweeper. (Presumably you have Real Time antivirus protection installed.) I use Win Patrol to see what's going on if a problem occurs on one of our network machines.

Open "Task Manager" and check the "Processes".
See if anything is utilizing the CPU. If so, this will give you a starting place.
