I’m new to TechRepublic. Looked for help in this article, but article is not visible to me. I’m locked out of my own files created on various computers, saved on computers and external drive, then copies from external drive to Maxtor Mini III (small / portable, but access denial means potential useless! HELP!
After 12 months of trying every answer in every forum, I gave up, I could either chuck the 640G hard drive – or I could format the drive. So that’s the solution, lose all of your data but keep the drive, in my case I lost all the family photos that I’d scanned in over the years. Thanks eveyone in many many forums for your hints & advice. My external harddrive is now connected to my pc & running perfectly, It is recognised every time & I now have no problems with it. By the way my pc now runs on Ubantu as we have ditched windows 7 & windows vista from both of our pcs. If we ever buy another computer, it will be a Mac.
