Windows 2000 / 2003 Folder Auditing

By MHurst ·

Is there a way I can set up my File Servers to audit changes to a folder?

Example: Constantly, I have users who like to 'Move' a folder into another folder than I get calls and have to find out where the folder is, and move it back.!!

Is there a way I can let users edit/write/create new files in a folder, but NOT let them physically move that folder???

Hello Mike,

You can create security permissions that enable users to add, modify, and delete the contents of a folder but not delete the folder itself. This is done here:

Right click on the folder->Properties->Security Tab->Advanced button.

Of course, you'll need to do the above for the appropriate users and/or groups that you want to limit in this way.

Did this help?
