Windows 2000

I am running win 2000 every thing moves slow so I went in to my task manager and nothing was running but I was 100% CPU usage so I check my process and my system was at 99 cpu I tried to end process but it wouldn't let me, I reran win2000 over it self as a upgrade so I wouldn't lose my documents but it did the same thing is there a way I can fix this with out formating and running a full install

A couple of things to try.
1 look at your Events log and see if something happened around the time you noticed the change.

2 Run a virus scan on your computer. It could be that you are infected.

When you open the task manager go to the processes tab instead of Applications tab and move down the list to find which process is using all the cpu time. Then go from there. A process may be hanging at startup? Good Luck.
