Windows 2000 and AS400

By techman ·
Our Windows 9x workstations see the AS400 fine in the network neighborhood. However with the same protocols. Windows 2000 Network Places does not show it.. Does anyone know why? I would like to map some items but w/out being about to see it I can't do it.. I can ping it fine..

Windows 2000 and AS400

The AS/400 (I presume you've installed Client Access or a similar IBM connectivity solution) emulates an NT Server in this, and hence publishes its info in the Network Browser model. W2K however does not expect a browser table, but DDNS info. So tworoutes for solving:
* In due time the AS/400 software _will_ be upgraded to support this DDNS (the server records in the DNS, that is)
* AFIR there are some ways to tweak W2K so that Network Places also recognizes normal browser tables. Don't ask me exactly how..

Hope this helps,

that makes some sense. It would be nice if 2000 could actually support some of the features that 9x has been using for some time. Thanks.
