Windows 2000 appearance on our network

By kxmx ·
I would like to have my Windows 2000 Professional computer show up on our network as an NT 4.0 system. What needs to be modified for this to happen?

Manage your profiles from a shared directory on the NT 4.0 network, Use your NT 4.0 tools to deal with the profiles and make them mandatory so Windows 2000 does not change them dramatically. This will allow you to make the Windows 2000 machine behave similar to the NT 4.0 system. The machine will still be a 2000 system, but at least you can give your users a similar interface. Otherwise the other answer would be correct. Install v4.0. Keep the Windows 2000 cd around and when you are ready to convert, consider that license already bought.

Although, currently, Microsoft does not allow reimaging of system with Windows Installed via OEM. This is a violation of their license agreement. They claim windows 2000 will save money from scripting, but it is against their license rules to use it. :-)
