Hi,
I’m wondering if anyone knows how to setup scripting to automate defrag that comes with Win2K. Any ideas?
Here’s the question that was emailed to me as part of a practice exam that has me very curious. The part I’m thinking about is below………
Windows 2000 includes a Disk Defragmenter tool that
is based on Executive Software’s full retail version
of Diskeeper. There are certain limitations of this
version. Which of the following are limitations of
the version of the Disk Defragmenter tool in Windows
2000? Choose all that apply.
A. Can defragment only dynamic volumes
B. Can defragment only local volumes
C. Can defragment only one volume at a time
D. Can defragment only volumes formatted with theNTFS file system
E. Cannot defragment one volume while scanning
another
Answer: B, C & E
The version of Diskeeper included with Windows 2000
has the following limitations:
– Can defragment only local volumes
– Can defragment only one volume at a time
– Cannot defragment one volume while scanning another
– Cannot be scripted
– Cannot be scheduled
– Can run only one Microsoft Management Console (MMC)
snap-in at a time
Note that there are scripts available for the Disk
Defragmenter utility in Windows 2000 so that
scheduling is possible.
The Disk Defragmenter utility works with both basic
and dynamic volumes and works on FAT, FAT32 and NTFS
formatted volumes.
