    Windows 2000 Domains

We have Windows 2000 installed as our server. We also have two remotes sites that we manage using frame relays on WANs. Before converting from NT to Windows 2K, we could see both of our remote sites, but since the migration, we can only see one of our remote sites. Can anyone help? Thanks!

We most miss this feature when accessing the other remote sites by using the Microsoft Networks option on the desktop!

Is each location a domain? It could be the browser just does not have time to update. Can you map a drive to any of the shares by going to explorer and clicking tools, map network drive, type in the \\computername\sharename? If so it is a browserproblem. If not can you ping them. That lets you know if the link is up.

In Windows 2000 you can also configure sites. A site is all of the domain controllers that are well connected over a network. For example, all controllers are a location. You would create a new site for each remote site. This is done in the MMC under Active directory, sites.

I appreciate the information. All of the communications aspects of the problem are present and working. Do you have any other ideas? Maybe something to do with the WINS perhaps?

It could very possible be a WINS issue. The browser uses WINS to browse a different segment. How many WINS servers do you have? Is there one on each segment, or one for the whole enterprise? Let me know a little about your WINS setup and maybe Ican help. You can email offline if you like.

Our company has tried about three different scenarios with WINS. The first scenario was each site had two different WIN servers and each of them duplicated to every WINS on the WAN. The second scenario is having the two WINS servers at each site have a hierarcherial setup. The primary WINS server duplicated to the secondary WINS server at their respective sites. Now we currently have only one WINS server and it is located at our main office where I work. None of the other sites have a WINSserver at their site. The last scenario was at the suggestion of Microsoft, but still having no luck with it. Hope this helps!
