Windows 2000 install

By dwhite440 ·
I recently installed Windows 2000 on two Compaq laptops. One is a Compaq presario 1255 and the other is an Compaq Armada 1700. I can not get Win2000 to recognize the built in modems in ethier laptop. The generic LTwin drivers do not properly install the modems and Compaq does not offer much support on the topic. Has anyone have any suggestion or been down this path?

Go to MSoft and check HCL(Hardware Compatibility List).
www.microsoft.com/hcl
All devices must be on the Windows 2000 HCL or have a driver supplied by a third-party vendor.
For drivers check: www.drivershq.com
Good luck

Yep, that's right. You need to either ensure your hardware is on the HCL or obtain drivers from the manufacturer that are specifically written for Win2K.

Other resources for driver searches are windrivers.com and driverguide.com.
