It sounds like you need a boot disk with cd rom drivers. Or, check your BIOS at startup to have the computer use the CD-ROM as a boot drive.

I was just wondering,
what were you using before?
and why did you install win 2000?

Did the install come with a floppy you could put in A: drive?

I have two suggestions:

1. Try copying the explorer.exe from another win2kpro machine and replacing yours(providing you kept the partition as fat). If this works, then I'ld add service pack 2 for win2k(just go to microsoft.com).

2. If you created an emergency repair disk you can use it to repair the current installation.

3. If you want to reinstall over the current version, get a win98 startup disk (it will automatically load you cdrom drive so you can have access in DOS). You can start the install by doing: cdrom:\I386>winnt /b (floppyless install). I think while you're reinstalling you'll be prompted to repair the current installation.

Good Luck.

go into you systems BIOs during the bootup phase. Find the optionto determine drive "boot up" order. Select the option that allows the CDrom to boot first. Place Win2k into you cdrom drive. As the system boots, it will ask if you want the cdrom to load first "hit any key". Then just reinstall or replace Win2k.
