Windows 2000 Server using XP Pro and roaming profiles

    Locked

    by mmango ·

WE have Windows 2000 Server running in our school and have now added 60 MS-XP Pro systems. I cannot figure out how to load and configure the PC’s to generally accept roaming profiles logins. All students use roaming profiles to access the network on muliple PC’s throughout the day. Please help.
    Thank You
    Michael

In reply to Windows 2000 Server using XP Pro and roaming profiles

Here is a copy of my logon script for each roaming profile, should help you a bit…

Make yourself a .bat file with your info and should run fine…
      1)net use p: \\server\public /persistent:no
      2)net use u: “\\server\%username%$” /persistent:no
      3)delprof /q /d:5
      4)exit

      1. Maps public folder on server
      2. Maps personal folder on server to users login name… (Personal folder is shared on the server with whatever username with a $ on the end of it to make it a hidden folder… Adjust the permissions as needed)

      3. deletes other profiles so as not to take up space on local pc
      4. exits batch file

The problem with roaming profiles is you have to ensure the programs that each person utilizes is installed on each pc.

In the bat file, just copy and paste my info above and take out the #’s ( 1. 2. 3. 4.) test it with yourself and you should be good.

      Good luck
