Windows 2000 Shut Down problem

By paff ·
Recently i migrated from Win98se to Win2000ProSP3. But the new windows system do not shut my computer down (as win98se did). Instead there appears a screen with message "It is now safe to turn off your computer". And i must shut it down by the button on the case. Both operating systems recognize my chipset - Intel82440LX(no additional drivers to look for). How can i manage with this problem?

also check in powermanagement, if it's set to turn off after a shut down.

On some systems, Windows 2000 and XP do not enable APM when they install.

Right click on My Computer.
Select Properties.
Click on the Hardware tab.
Click on Device Manager.

Click on view, and select show hidden (all) devices.
Right click on APM and select enable.

That should do it.
