Windows 2000 Workgroup

By sfolsom ·
I have a workgroup called monarch with 5 Windows 2000 machines attached to it. I recently added a Windows XP box to this workgroup. Sometimes this machine sees all other workstations and sometimes it does not. I know the quick fix is to install Windows 2000 and be done with it, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a straight forward answer?

You are limited to 10 IP connections on Workstations. If you cannot navigate to the system via IP or NETBIOS name, you have exceeded the number of permitted connections.

The other option is that each system is maintaining a browse list and this can take up to 15 minutes to refresh.

To check which issue is happening, ping the unseen workstation by both NETBIOS name and IP address. If the system is not reachable, then you have exceeded the number of IP connections.
