We have a Windows 2003 server which we back up every night using Symantec Backup Exec version 10d. For several mornings, since we last rebooted it, there has been a message saying that the most recently created file in the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\EventCache folder couldn’t be opened and saved. When I try to copy it, a message appears saying that it’s being used by another program. Here are my questions:
(1) What is the importance of this folder and its contents?
(2) What is the program that has kept hold of this file since the server was last rebooted, and how do I free the file to be backed up?
I would appreciate any suggestion anyone could offer.
