Windows 2003 Firewall not working conflict with Ipnat.sys

By abahou ·
I am trying to access Windows Firewall in Windows 2003, but I keep getting this message: Windows Firewall cannot run because another program or service is running that might use the network address translation component (Ipnat.sys) .

I did everything, I stopper RRAS and looked if I can stop Inat. but nothing. Still can't access the firewall and i reall need to put a port as an exception. Mysql port that is 3306.

Please help if you can, I've read so many q&a about his problem and all say stop RRAS. But with me it's not working.

Same Problem

by thomas In reply to Windows 2003 Firewall not ...

I have the same problem. RRAS is not enabled on my Win
2003 server but I still can't run Windows Firewall.

I am doing IP Filtering in TCP/IP but even with that turned off
it won't load.

I found the solution

by abahou In reply to Same Problem

Hi thomas!
I found it! basically you should not go and stop RRAS from SERVICES..you should right click My Computer -> Manage -> Services and Applications -> RRAS! you'll find it with a red box next to it, right click and click on DISABLE! it will tell you will have to reconfigure later on which is ok!

Hello There

by Bigb_G In reply to Thanks!

We are having a recurring problem on SBS 2003 server.

Every time it is rebooted, the Windows Firewall Service does not start and reports a conflict with ipnat.sys. This causes the server to refuse any incoming connections from clients.

The fix is to disable RRAS, start Windows Firewall, then enable RRAS, and the issue is resolved. The next time the server reboots, however, we get the same behavior again (windows firewall does not start and no incoming connections are accepted).

Please advice i want both the Windows Firewall AND the RRAS service are started successfully with no errors.

Thanks
GEEJAY
