Windows 2K, can't get rid of image

By jmeyer ·
So, your in Win2K, you want to lock the computer, so you press ctrl-alt-del to get to the options for log-off, change password, lock comp., etc. There is a background image at this screen that I used to use as my desktop background. The image has long since been deleted, I did not ever make any other copies, and I am going nuts trying to find where windows has stored this "ghost". I feel pretty certain that it is in the registry some where, but cannot find it! It's not the most critical matter in the world, but one which has me pulling my hair out! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure how it works, but if you set a wallpaper, then have your desktop display as a WEB page, the underlying wallpaper will still appear. Try going to your screen properties and selecting "none" as you wallpaper.

I know you want to delete the file so it doesn't show up.

The only way to do this is to select another background, then choose yet another one.

Windows will keep the last copy of your wallpaper in cache, I think its actually a dll file.

When you get to your second wallpaper selection then do you logoff, you should have the previous one showing, not the one your trying to get rid of...

good luck
