Windows 2k DHCP problem

By Spank ·
I'm running a test network at my house with a Win2k Advanced server and 4 win98 machines and a 10 address IP scope. The clients have nor problem picking up an IP address from the server, however the server takes up the remaining addresses and holdsthem. When the client tries to renew there are no addresses available. Any ideas out there?

Check the DHCP lease information to see what takes up the addresess (I know you said the server, but I'm thinking about the RRAS). Are you using Routing and Remote Access services?

Windows 2k DHCP problem

**An idea: this is related to the great NT feature: multiple concurrent ip address for each nic. Up to five is normal for each device. This allows nt server to provide bridges and routing over diverse network setups.

One solution is 'manual over-ride'. In dhcp mangement, delete or remove the leases. They come back again though, over time, though ...

An other solution is to create more dhcp scopes and assign more address to the nic(s) in the server. This is time consuming, a bit complexto keep it all straight and test, ...

An other solution is to add a hardware device that acts as router/hub/dhcp/firewall/xyz ...

An other solution -- will be provided by an other peer soon, hopefully with some MS settings that manipulate this behaviour ...

Thanks for the opportunity to assist and to learn at the same time.
