Windows 3.1 print driver

By MC_User ·
I need to install a HP 810c print driver on several windows 3.1 PC's. I want to do this from floppy disk without having to install the entire 3MB HP printer toolkit that was supplied. How do I isolate just the driver from this mess and install it properly?

Firstly I'm not sure that you can but I would open the CD and look for DOS drivers if there are any copy just the DOS Driver to a Floppy and then you can use that to install the printer to the Win 3.1 Environment. Remember that all Windows 3 X where running on a DOS Shell and you'll need a DOS driver for the printer.

Maybe HP has a DOS driver listed on their web site for this unit in which case you could download the DOS Driver and install from there if it will actually fit on a floppy is a different matter though.

All I have is the download files from HP. There is no specific set of DOS drivers but one set that incorporates 3.1, 3.11, 95 and 98 installs.

I downloaded both driver files from HP.

When you run them, they extract and create folders for 3 floppies.

Looking at the files, you might be able to use just the INI file and the files on the first floppy to create a driver disk.

I can't run the setup program on my XP box as is.

I myself, would extract the files and then copy them to 3 floppies.
Then, insert the first floppy and select as manual an installation as possible.

I didn't want to do this because it takes so long to load. That is why I was looking for a short cut.

I eventually ended up doing this though. The drivers installed correctly. Now I have an incompatibility with a parallel port auto switcher. (All the PC's are linked to one printer through it.)
