Windows 7 Beta and Virtual PC

By NormH3 ·
Anyone try loading Windows 7 in Virtual PC yet? I tried to the other day, but it seemed to hang. Haven't researched it yet, but thought I would ask here.

It will load, but you must give it plenty of memory. I have allocated about 980 MB and it works ok. The VPC tools install ok but there is no sound.

Thanks. I have since located a dedicated PC that might run it OK.

Norm the 32 Bit version of 7

by OH Smeg In reply to Windows 7 Beta and Virtua ...

Doesn't need the same system resources as Vista does and it runs much better than Vista on the same hardware. It doesn't appear to be as much of a Resource Hog as Vista so if the unit you found is marginal as far as Vista is concerned you should be OK with 7.

If however you are attempting to load the 64 Bit Version you need more resources than the same version of Vista and you may find some hardware no longer working. I am Dual Booting the 32 & 64 Bit versions of Vista on one system and with the 32 Bit running everything works. With the 64 Bit running the Video Capture card doesn't as you are unable to successfully install the driver. There are a few other screwy things that you can not load either things like Acrobat Reader 9. Come to mind but otherwise everything seems to work. :)

I will most likely stay with the 32bit version for now. I do have a Duo Core laptop that I currently use with XP x64. Appreciate the information.

Works good...

by erichems In reply to Windows 7 Beta and Virtua ... fact, writing this response through Windows 7 in Virtual PC 2007. Had to update Virtual PC to service pack 1 first, but otherwise it was a clean install outside of a small issue I'm having with the sound card.

Happy beta testing all!
