Windows 7 Sidebar

By Radar1751 ·
My sidebar gadgets just recently stopped working. Everything else seems to be fine (MS Office programs, internet, email). Is there any way to reinstall or restore just the sidebar function? I really miss some of my gadgets . . .

What I meant was that when I double-clicked on the clock (for example), instead of showing the full clock with hour, minute and second hands working, it would display a black circle with what looked like the second hand which wouldn't move. Some of the other gadgets either wouldn't display at all or were hollow shells of the application, none of which displayed properly or worked as intended.

Sidebar issue

Run your cmd prompt under admin credentials. Then type in: regsvr32 msxml3.dll to set registration again. After which, type: regsvr32 scrrun.dll and also regsvr32 jscript.dll

If the registration was successful, you'll see the message DllRegisterServer in <filename> succeeded for each command executed. Open Windows Sidebar (sidebar.exe) and check if the problem is resolved

Oh forgot, shut down the sidebar first. I think that goes without saying. Make sure Java and MSXML are up to date as well. The registering process should take care of the rest. Shut down UAC if you have that on, just for safe measures, you'll have to reboot to take affect.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my inquiry. I resolved the problem last week by doing a system restore from a recent backup I'd done. I didn't know how to remove this post or I would have. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.

No problem, remember the fix for the future. Copy it to a text file. Glad to be of service.
