Windows 7 Ultimate Taskbar Thumbnail Previews?

By cyberghost_1 ·
My Q: is... How can I recover the taskbar thumbnail preview ability/function in Windows 7 Ultimate SP1?? The issue started with this... I installed and am using TuneUp Utilities 2011 and I was messing around with TuneUp Styler and I changed the setting for the previews... I tried undoing the change but they never came back... its been 6 months and I have tried everything... I created a new partition and installed Win7 Ultimate there too and from the go the taskbar thumbnail previews worked... should I try the "Repair my disk" option from the Win 7 Ultimate installation disk?? (Aactually I created a bootable Win7 Ultimate USB Flash Drive, since I am working with a Compaq Mini CQ10-120LA Netbook...) Can someone please help me so that I'm able to restore the previews... Also... the option to automatically open menus or sub-menus just by hovering over the item with the mouse pointer is also disabled... I have to click on any menu I want to extend... i.e. the "All Programs" section in the Star Menu... it used to show the programs just by hovering over it with the pointer, but now i have to click on it to list the programs... any ideas... or registry tweaks??? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated...

Enable or Disable Taskbar Thumbnail Preview in Windows 7

1. Click on start and type on search bar "gpedit.msc" (without the quotes) and press enter. Sometimes it freezes, just refresh and do it again (as above), it should work.

2. Now navigate to "User Configuration", "Administrative Templates", and "Start Menu and Taskbar" in left pane of "Group Policy Editor".

3. Locate "Turn off (or "on") Taskbar Thumbnails" in right pane of "Group policy" editor and double click on it.

4. Select "Disable" click "apply" and Press "ok".

5. Now check your Taskbar, it should not show Thumbnails Preview. Or if you seleted to turn it on it should show Thumbnails Preview.

Please Note: Taskbar Thumbnail Preview only works when you have Enabled Aero in Windwos 7.

Thx for the info... I tried this and still no taskbar previews... I noticed that in the link u mentioned that my Windows Experience Index has to be at least 3.0... Mine is 2.2, but like I mentioned when I installed Win 7 Ultimate on the other partition the taskbar previews were working fine. Why is that?? The Index was the same?? Just a fresh install, I set all the settings thge same as my regular installation, with Glass enabled, small icons, small taskbar, Aero enabled... just like my regular installation... I don't understand?? Could it have something to do with TuneUp Utilities?? Could it have locked the setting to off?? I tried restoring it thru the program but it doesn't work... any ideas??
