Windows 7 Update

By gchapman ·
I have upgraded Vista to Windows 7 and now I can't load any windows updates. I tried reinstalling Windows 7 and an initial step goes off to find updates, and the install stalls. Any clues?

To make sure that all the drivers are installed?

Also what type of User Account are you using?

Have you checked to make sure that windows defender is on and updated? After it is just restart the computer. That worked for me!

Service Pack 1

by TheChas In reply to Windows 7 Update

Is Windows 7 service pack 1 installed?

If your Windows 7 install disk does not state includes Service Pack 1, you may need to manually download and install Service pack 1 before you can install updates.

Also, it is often best to install Windows 7 and then get the updates. While performing the install if your motherboard chip-set and network adapter are newer than the default drivers on the Windows 7 DVD, the installer may not be able to make the connection and download the updates.
