Windows 7 x64 SP1 Disk Space Requirements

By vgehring ·
OK, so I understand that if you are a home/small business user, you will likely use Windows Update online to install W7 SP1. If you are a corporate IT tech, you will likely load up your WSUS/WDS system with SP1 and deploy via GP's to your users. However, if you do not fall into either of those two groups and desire to intstall SP1 via the manual download method, you will find that it requires 8GB free disk space on C: (or whatever your system drive is). I know from past experience that MS service packs use lots of temp disk space for backups and generally give an option to choose your backup drive during SP install. Is this no longer the case with SP1?

Is there maybe a command line option to redirect temp file storage to somewhere other than the C drive? For those of us with SSD C drives, space is at a premium and some disk usage options for SP1 that could use D, E, F, etc. drives would be nice.
