By kjackson_swc ·
I have a IBM PERSONAL COMPUTER 300GL that continue's to crash while using any application or program. I am using Windows 95 and MSOffice 97 the screen goes black and than I just have to re-boot. We have re-installed the operating system(windos95) but the problem persists. What can I do?.

If cleaning the computer and formatting your disk does not do the trick, you may want to consider upgrading to W98 or WME.

#1. Use norton system works to analyze the entire system... follow recommendations. Sounds like a registry problem, norton will take care of this
#2 If this does not fix it open the PC and clean system board..pressing on all socketed chips and cards. USE GROUND STRAP BEFORE DOING THIS!!!!!!
#3 perform low level format using fdisk to find and block bad sectors on the hard drive. Then perform normal format and reinstall software.

How much memory does this computer have? Is it withthe the specifcations for running both Win95 and Office?

Have you cleaned ~*.* , *.tmp and any temporary internet files?

Have you run a diskscan or a defrag?

If it's only the screen that goes blank, you may have a monitor card that is coming loose, going blank when it gets hot, etc. See if the computer remains on during this time. See if the monitor card is secure. Make sure that the electical is good.
