Windows 95 Error Disk or Icon Properties

by sed55 . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

I have a Pentium 100 system running Windows 95 release 4.00.950 (first release). I have a 10.2 GB hard drive, partitioned into 5 – 2GB partitions. Whenever I go to My Computer, right click on a drive, and go to Properties, OR right click on an Icon on the desktop, and go to Properties, I get a “RED X” error box for Explorer that says the following:
==========================================
Explorer

This Program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the Problem persists, contact the program vendor.
==========================================

“Details Tab”

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module SHELL32.DLL at 0137:7fe15331

Registers:
EAX=008af064 CS=0137 EIP=7fe15331 EFLGS=00010212
EBX=00000710 SS=013f ESP=008aedf0 EPB=008af034
ECX=008aef24 DS=013f ESI=004481d4 FS=0eb7
EDX=00000137 KS=013f EDI=00000000 GS=0000

I can get the rest of the details screen if need be. This is stumping me pretty good. This is a new installation of Windows 95 ‘out of the box’ with no patches, etc. Any suggestions on what I can do?

Thanks for your suggestions,

Dennis
