windows 95 Low Memory Resources

By PMidnite ·
Getting a message that says Low memory Resources.
Not enough memory or resources to run Norton Antivirus. Any Suggestions on what to look at?

What CPU?
How much RAM?
How much free hard drive space?

You want to have between 128MB and 384MB of RAM.

You need to have a minimum of 500MB of free hard drive space.

If you have an AMD CPU that is faster than 350MHz, you need to install the AMD update for Windows 95.

Then, check how many programs run in the background.
You may have spy-ware or ad-ware that is using up your resources.
AdAware from www.lavasoft.de can find most spy-ware programs.

If you still have problems, you may have a memory leak.
Download and run a memory manager to both check for and manage memory leaks.
Try the utilities section at www.nonags.com

I have no idea what The Chas is talking about. Win 95 will run on a 486 DX 66 with 8 MB RAM. Naturally higher specifications will make it run faster, but a Pentium I of any speed, and 16 MB RAM will do the job. RAM is a much more important factor than CPU speed, but the main advantage of extra RAM is that the computer will crash (freeze) less often.

Run defrag regularly (once a week or fortnight). A badly fragmented Hard drive will slow your computer down to a snail's pace.

Do the following
Do scandisk
