Windows 95 Product ID on the CD-ROM Disk

By BigJohnDoe ·
Hi:
I'm attempting to install an old copy of Windows 95A on a PC to test a software application. I'm the registered owner of this copy of Windows and I have the original CD but the Certificate of Authenticity is nowhere to be found. Does anyone know where (or if) the Product ID number can be found on the original CD? I would think the ID # would have to be on the disk to match the ID # that's entered during the installation process. I've looked through a number of files using a hex viewer but haven't had any luck. Thanks.

It's on the back of the CD case. The case may have been white cardboard with the Wondows 95 logo and clouds or a plastic jewel case. The Product ID number will be on a yellow sticker.

Good luck.

The serial number is not on the disc. It's based on a mathematical formula of some kind - any valid serial will unlock any CD (as long as the serial number format matches).

either yours will be in the form:
xxx-yyyyyyy (early non-OEM) or
xxxxx-OEM-yyyyyyy-zzzzz (later or OEM)

If you've got the xxx-yyyyyyy version, one of the three possibilities in the sequence 41[5,7,9]-1234567 should unlock it. I've never found a pattern to the OEM version, though I'm sure one probaby exists.

If yours is the OEM type and you're really stuck, email me. I have many spare OEM Win95 Certificates gathering dust at my office, and would happily mail you one.
