Hi, I’m an installer of wireless broadband systems in Ontario…I did an install on an older lady’s house about an hour and a half drive from my house, ran the ethernet cable all the way into the house, to the back of the computer and lo and behold, no NIC. Aggh! Of course I suppose I should have checked for one first, but who the heck doesn’t have a NIC these days?
So, I went back another day and installed one for her, a PCI 10/100 card, supposedly compatible with Win 98, which she is running on an HP Pavilion….
I went through the network setup, IE connection settings, device manager settings, installed the drivers, all is well there, and I’ve read through all the discussions pertaining to WIN98 and lan cards/Internet on this board, and I seem to be flummoxed…she still can’t get online! Windows recognizes the card, TCP/IP protocol is in place…help???? I am truly a damsel in distress over here….
Any ideas anyone has would be very, very greatly appreciated…
Thank you!!!
FYI there is no router or hub, the cable goes directly into the card…the same cable works brilliantly on my laptop, the connection is great…
