Windows 98 and Safe Mode

By Johnbotz ·
A PC works great in "Normal Mode". It has a P2-350 Intel Processor with 128 MB RAM, 2 Hardrives (40GB Maxtor and a 6.4GB WD), 1 CD ROM (Magic Spin 48X) and 1 CD-RW (ACER 6X4X32), Main Video (16MB Diamond Viper 550) and 2 Best Data Voodoo2 cards in dual SLI mode. The problem is the computer will not go into "Safe-Mode". It works fine in "Normal Mode" but not "Safe Mode". Any Clues??????

You can reboot the computer and hold in the control key and get the windows boot menu. You can also press F8 when you see the starting windows 9x right before the spalsh screen. If that doesnt get you into safe mode as soon as you see the splash screen shut off your pc and it should boot you into safe mode. Are we talking about windows 95a 95b 98 or 98se? I know 95 has problems with the 100 mhz bus and the 350's and higher that requires a path to even let you into the os there might be an update for your issue. I would check with ms if you absolutly cannot get into safe mode.

go to Start,RUN and type msconfig.
at the first tab find the advance radio button.Click on it and check the box listed as "enable start up menu"Click ok ,ok and thenm restart. This will enable the start up menu.from there you can select safe mode.If it still does not boot to safe mode.then there are other problems.
