    windows 98 clients not able to browse ne

    We recently tried to implement a remote access solution for our sales people.
    We had an E1 card and 6 port digital modem bank on a cisco 3620 router.
    problem is, when dialing in remotely from a windows 98 laptop, the client could see the see the client on the network but, could not browse the network or retrieve email from the outlook client. can any help or have any
    ideas?

      You realy haven’t provided that much info are you running tcp/ip? is the adapter set up for Microsoft network vs Family logon
      can it ping by ip or machine name?

      The browsing problem may be resolved by allowing the router to forward NETBIOS broadcasts. If you’re not running a WINS server, you’ll need an LMHOSTS file on the laptop with the e-mail server’s address to retrieve e-mail. Assuming you’re using TCP/IP. Shot in the dark. Hope it provides some help.

      Make sure that the computer that you want to talk together all have the same workgroup in Network Identifacation. Also make sure that TCP is installed and correctly configered, can you ping the addresses?

      I strongly feel that the problem has to do with the wins resolution.Also check the tcp/ip settings to see if it’s wins registered,though browsing is always a registered problem with windows 98/95 accross
      different subnets.
