You describe a problem I had on a desktop. Have you installed any software immediately prior to this occuring.
It is possible that your 'prochook.dll' has been modified. To see what is going on exactly, there are 2 options.

Option 1: once you get to the desktop,
Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools/SystemInformation, once open; Tools/Dr.Watson.
Allow Dr.Watson to do its thing and see if any errors are reported.

Option 2: While in SafeMode;
Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools/SystemConfigurationUtility. Once this is open you can choose either Selective StartUp and load one file set at a time or,
choose Diagnostic StartUp, these will allow you to pinpoint, at least, where a problem may be.

Hope this helps ....H

OK, that didn't work. Have you tried your Start disk, to boot and run the diagnostics or load windows ?

Have you used ' EDIT ' to see if the device you mention is listed in any boot file? Can you disable it by removing it from sys,ini or Config.sys or autoexec.bat.

Have you tried using the dos command "find" to search your drive for it? 'find /?' lists the syntax for it.

still tryin ........... H
