Windows 98 domain name change

By ms7212 ·
I just upgraded our PDC from NT 4.0 to 2k. Before doing so I changed the domain name. I am having problems with clients running 98 & ME. I changed the domain name in the client for MS networks properties to the new domain. Restart and all is well. However, if I go back in to client for MS properties or reboot, the old domain name is there. I did rebind the adapter, TCP/IP (even though we use DHCP), and client for MS, but no luck. Even changed it to a workgroup and then back to the domain, no dice! What's up?

Wait for sometime until your DHCP finally purges the old domain name.

Should I wait until Chrsitmas? Nothing in DHCP shows anything about the old domain name. Release and renew did nothing to help as well.

Christmas, no, at most a week, yes. If you're running AD, depending on the amount of objects (computers, users, etc) it can take several DAYS to purge, although I don't think thats the case here. The bottom line is, if it works (i.e. your win9x client can access the new domain and has connectivity) then I would let it be.
