Windows 98 Home Directory Mapping

Why won’t my Win98 clients map their home drive letter from the configured profile settings in Active Directory Users and Computers?? Let me see if I can answer my own question…is it because that configuration setting calls on the
%username% variable that is not present in Win9X clients?? If so….what can you do besides upgrade to 2000 or XP professional?? Any assistance would help treeee mendously.
