Windows 98 map drive to windows server 2003

    Locked

    by cldicre ·

    Hey everyone,
I have a shared folder on a windows 2003 server (non domain controler), i set the permissions for a particular user.

When I map this shared folder from a windows xp client it asks for a user name and password, i enter the one thats set in the permissions and it ma ps it correctly.

However when i try to do the same from a windows 98 machine, it asks for a password to connect to the resource, but no username. I tried every password i could think of but no luck.

Any help would be appriciated. Thanks

Win98 does not have the same security protocols as an NT based OS such as Win2K or WinXP. To prove this, when booting the Win98 machine and it asks for a username/password, just press escape and see what happens.

If you set user permissions on the Win2003 folder, Win98 won’t ever get in to it.
