Windows 98/Millenium Machine into Domain

By reju ·
I have not been able to add a machine with Windows 98 or Windows Millenium Edition Installed into a Windows 2000 Domain. It is not able to contact the domain controller inspite of the fact that it pings to the machine with the domain controller andeven can access the machine.

Windows 98/Millenium Machine into Domain

by erikdr In reply to Windows 98/Millenium Mach ...

Maybe you'd first have to explain to us what you mean with
'add a machine into domain' and
'can access the machine'.
After all, W98/ME do work quite differently with NT and W2K domains than W2KP/NTW workstations. They do _not_ get a computer account, and are _not_ visible from Server Manager as linked workstations. However they _can_ access shares and other resources, their users (not the machines) _do_ logon into the domain etc.

Awaiting more details,

1.- Verify that you do not have any other machine wuth the same machine name.
2.- Verify that you don't have an account alreadry created for that machine. If yes delete it and create a new one.
3.- Be sure to have the right user + password to create a computer account.

Hope it helps!!!
