Windows 98 Password

By mastertype ·
My current configuration includes a network card, but my computer is NOT setup on a network. How do I get past the Windows password screen at startup? I hate having to constantly enter a password every time I boot or reboot my computer - especially when I am loading new software on my computer which requires a reboot.

Search for *.pwl in c: drive delete all files.

When you log back in press return on the login screen this will set your password up as blank and should not ask you for a password again.

The other option would be to remove all network settings and then remove your network card.

You should have a network neighbourhood icon on your desktop - right click - choose properties - remove client for microsoft network service - reboot

I think you mean you do not want the logon screen when you startup into Windows. This is what you will need to do: Remove all network programs except for Microsoft Family Logon. Do not reboot now. Go to Control Panel, double-click on the Passwords icon. You will see, in the user-profiles tab, that there are two choices. Click on the one with "All users of this computer use the same preferences and desktop settings". Press OK, and reboot. That's all, it's gone! Well, hope this works for you, Maozy.

If you are getting a Windows Password screen during startup, then your computer is setup w/ either Client for Microsoft Networks or w/ Windows Logon. To bypass the password screen, you have to set up something on the Network Properties inside the Control Panel.
Once your inside Network Properties, set the Network Primary Logon to Windows Logon instead of Client for Microsoft Network. After clicking OK, you would be prompted for a SYSTEM RESTART. Please click on NO. Go to PASSWORDS, also inside Control Panel. Click on Change Windows Password. After clicking on OK, you would be prompted to key-in the Old Password. Type in your old password but leave the New Password box blank. After clicking OK, a message signifying password has been changed would appear. After that, you need to restart your system and you would not be prompted to key in a password anymore.
