windows 98 peer to peer network

Hi,

I have windows 98 peer to peer network. I have just installed windows xp on one machine. I am not able to see windows 98 computers. I have given correct ip address and workgroup. What could be the reason???

Any idea??

Try to Ping the xp computer from 98 machine, click start, run, type command and click ok

At dos prompt type ping ip of xp machine and enter
if you get a reply try sharing folders on 98 machine's or just add file and printer sharing.

First, check your windows firewall settings to be sure you are not blocking access unintentionally. Second, if Win XP was home ed., you will have limited networking capability, even with peer to peer networking.

Turn off the firewall on the xp machine.

Right click on the local network connection in Network Connections.

Click on the Advanced tab. Uncheck the box.

Reboot
