Windows 98 Peer to Peer Question

I have a Win 98 PC that when I “log” on to the Peer to Peer network, the PC will lock up when trying to open MS Word or other programs. If I do not “log” on to the network the PC operates properly. The shared PC is a Win NT box, but I have 3 other Win 98 PC’s connecting to it and they operate properly. Any clues ??
