Windows 98 Roaming Profiles?

By BarryVG ·
With two NT servers and Windows 98 workstations, it becomes a burden to add profiles to each individual workstation so the users can have their own preferences. Is it possible to create a roaming profiles setup similar to NT? Have not been able tofind an informational reference.

Appreciate any input.

The best answer is "almost". You do not have the desktop security features of NT, but by using group policies and logon scripts on your server you can do an "adequate" job of presenting the same or uniform desktop to the users. I do this for my labsin a middle and high school environment. You can store your desktop icons on a server and change the user.dat file in their home directory to user.man and secure the desktop from changes. The main thing is to install group policies on the workstations and in the passwords section change the setting to "users can change...", this always seems like it is backward to me, but.. If this is any help to you I can get you more details on how I have done my labs.

Windows 98 Roaming Profiles?

When my users log to the respective system, they want to setup the appearance to their liking. Of course that means themes. Of which I'm no fond of. It would appear that your suggestion would be the best way to go, it won't be something that my users would agree with, so I'll just have to continue with the process I'm doing now. Thanks for your assistance.
