    Windows 98 Security

    Locked

    by jonbprofeta ·

We have about 30 workstations here in our company. It is a mix of Win 2000 and Win 98 PCs. My question is, can I apply Group Policy or user restriction to Win 98 just like Win 2000. So that when a shared folder is accessed by the same username over the network, I could ban the other to access it.

You can apply group policies to W98.

I believe that you need the FULL version of the W98 Resource Kit to have the policy wizard.

I found mine on the clearance shelf of the local Media Play store.

You CANNOT apply Win2K Group Policies to any operating system prior to Win2K.

Win98 (and WinNT) came with a policy editor (on the CD) that lets you apply limited System Policies. However, these system policies are nowheres near as extensive as the policies available in Win2K/XP.
