When shutting down the programs you were working with will be consumed back to the Hard Drive. Often, the shut down procedure is faster than the consumption rate, and this will cause a user to get "Incorrect Shutdown" or a restart. It is no big thing, but more annoying than harmful.

This problem exists always regardless of whether active programs are shutting down or not.

Try the Disable Fast Shutdown option.
You get to it by doing a Start -> Run...
Type 'msconfig' on the command line and OK.
It's on the list of options in the Advanced button.

Hope this helps.

The restart could be caused by a virus that is attached to your machine, run anti-virus and scan disk for any drive errors.

Answer #2 is exactly what you need to do ...
Go to accessories / system tools / system information then on the tools menu click system configuration utility . Press the ADVANCED button and check / uncheck the "disable fast shutdown" . OK / APPLY and try to shutdown the system if it doesn't get solved on the first attempt , don't worry it will on your next few attempts .....

good Luck !!!
