Windows 98 with Linksys Wireless B Card

By stromn ·
I recently installed this Wireless card on an Acer Travelmate 520 laptop running Windows 98. It installed great and worked great for a couple of weeks. Now the driver seems to be corrupted and I need to uninstall and reinstall the driver and configuration software. I have tried (many times)to uninstall it with the built in uninstaller. It says that the software has been removed successfully, but it is still there. The Linksys software will not reinstall unless I first uninstall the software. Linksys support says that the driver is locked up by Windows 98 and will not help me. Does anyone know how to either unlock this driver or do a manual uninstall of this product?

Have you tried doing it through the device manager? Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. Device manager should be in there. Then see if the device is listed there (and it sounds like it should be). Right-click on it a say Properties, click on the Driver tab. There should be an Uninstall button.
Otherwise, you might have to get a listing of files from the .inf file and try to remove them (I suggest renaming them) and then going into the registry and trying to find the entries, but this clearly is not recommended.
