Windows 9x and UNIX communications

By gemailhiot ·
Situation:
SCO UNIX V network running Wy60 terminals.
2-computer network running Windows 95 and 98
I need to have the Windows computers access an application and data residing on the UNIX server.
The Wy60 terminals are connected to the server via RJ45 cable and a DIGI-board hub.
All equipment is located in the same 2-story building within approximately 125' of each other.
I thought of using Procomm Plus to have the windows computer emulate Wy60 terminals.

Is that a valid approach or is there something more "elegant"?

Thanks for yor help

Procomm should do the trick, however, would think there's a telnet client with a wy60 emulator out htere somewhere.

Procomm Plus has a lot of overhead you won't need but it's a respectable, stable product and I think it would work well for you.

There is also a telnet terminal emulation package called NetTerm ($20 shareware, available on the Tucows site), that does Wyse50 emulation but I don't know how similar that it is Wyse60. However, I have used it under other emulations and it works pretty well.

Hello Gilles,
Try TeraTerm as telnet client. It`s free (GNU GPL licence). May be you need to build termcap file entry for your terminal type.
You can find TeraTerm (sources and binaries) on http://www.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.htmlWith best regards,
Vlad.

My original query was for investigative purposes mostly. This suggestion seems best suited to my needs

I have been using tiny term with telnet to emulate our hp unix apps. on our win3.1 win95 and win98 machines. Works great for us. Very easy to manage as well

Thanks for the info. I will investigate further. The need for a solution is not as pressing as it was when I posted the query.
Thanks again
