I am trying to find out how to use the built in messenger service that is on windows xp and windows server(not msn messenger). I am working for a small company right now and part of my job is the IT dept. and I would like to know how to use this service so I can send out alerts to the employees on the network when we are bringing the system down for a software update or patch or when we are bringing it down to do a backup. Any help would be greatly appreciated as in all my net searches all I am coming up with is how to turn it off so you dont get the ad pop ups that you get when your not behind a firewall or well networked.
