Windows DC

By oisere ·
I am trying to install a Windows 2003 server as a DC in a Windows 2000 domain. No luck. The error is listed below. Can anybody help me out please!!!

"The problem Failed because: The Active directory installation wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepered for installing Windows server 2003. Use the Adprep command line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain."

"The version of the Active directory Schema of the source forest is not compactible with the version of Active directory on this computer."

All Windows 2000 Domain controllers must be Service Pack 2 or greater.

Once done you need to update the active directory schema.

To do that, do the following:

On the a Windows 2000 Domain Controller:

Insert Windows 2003 CD
Open Command prompt.
Browse to the I386 folder on the CD (in cmd)

Then use both of the following:

adprep /forestprep

Followed by

adprep /domainprep

You will now be able to promote the 2003 server to a domain controller.
